2021 is just around the corner. And now is the time to prepare your social media and content. I’m sharing my top 3 marketing predictions for the new year that will blow your mind 🤯 and help you reach more people.
Social Media SEO
We know IG is focused on it (they announced this in November of this year). LinkedIn already works with Google. YouTube is optimized. Facebook uses it to an extent too.
With any of these – especially Instagram – you can use a keyword in the search bar and find relevant videos, profiles, and posts related to that keyword.
This is going to be a game-changer for small businesses. It will increase your reach and opportunities for more organic traffic.
Take some time during the holiday break to update your profiles! What keywords do you want to be known for? How can you use those in your social media posts so they show up in the search results?
MicroContent
I have been talking about this one for a few months (in fact, we covered it in the Content Simplified Membership this quarter), but I think it’s going to be more relevant in 2021. We are a fast-paced world and people want small, actionable steps to improve their goals.
Microcontent is short, easy to consume content. They are shorter posts, memes, visuals, bite-sized pieces of content, and even short videos. Google’s Featured Snippets are an example of microcontent.
Long-form content is great for your blog or website and micro-content should be fueling your social media. Microcontent demonstrates the value of what you have to say, which will increase the chances that someone will read your longer posts.
Most of the world these days reads their social media from a mobile device. The shorter the content, the easier it is to consume and comment. People are scrolling, scrolling, scrolling to find something that grabs their attention. You have 8 seconds to capture someone’s attention with a headline, image, or video clip. Making your content scannable is especially critical on social media.
Connection
We have now officially been in our homes and avoiding groups for 9 months now – longer in some places. We are craving that connection now more than ever. We are tired of not seeing people face to face. So what can you do to build the community and create a connection with your business?
How are you humanizing your brand? Are you being transparent, authentic, and vulnerable in your content? People want to connect with YOU. They want to know that you are real and invested in their progress too. They want to know that you celebrate wins, have frustrating days, and want to feel valued – just like they do.
Brene Brown defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued. When they can give and receive without judgment, and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
It’s possible to have that online. Really, it is. So how are you showing up for your people to help them feel seen, heard, and valued?
