Do you have a fear of live video? ? Does it freak you out?
You get your hair and makeup done. You have a good topic and bullet points written out. You even invited a few friends to be on there with you for moral support.
But then, it’s time to hit the Go Live button. ?
And you freeze. Then get all sweaty and panic.
And the thoughts start going……
What if I forget my words? What if no one is watching? What if my voice shakes and everyone can see how nervous I am? ?
I’ll be honest. Sometimes I still get super nervous, but I power through and do it anyway! If video isn’t part of your marketing plan, it should be.
So how do you get over the fear of live video?
One of my favorite ways is to use the Marco Polo app or video chat. I like Marco Polo cause it’s easy to use and can be watched at any time. I use it with my accountability partner every morning to check-in. And then my husband and I use it to show off our funny kids to each other throughout the day!
This has drastically helped me improve being comfortable with live video. I still have a ways to go until I’ve perfected it, but Marco Polo has definitely helped!
I still write out notes. Nowadays they are more like bullet points, but I still have notes. I am not one of those people that can just talk off the cuff. It requires thought out notes and clear thinking. The good news is that those notes then get put into a blog post, so I really am killing two birds with one stone.
Notes keep me on track, but it also helps me know that I am serving my audience the best I can. I have taken the time to think about what I want to say, what makes sense and have it in a methodical order. So yes, it takes me a few more minutes to prepare for my lives than some people, but it’s totally worth it in the long run.
This is probably one of my favorite tips. Ask friends to join you live for moral support. I am part of a group of about 5 entrepreneurs to help with just this. Each week, we share when our lives are. Then we do our best to get on each other’s live and offer support. It’s so nice to have some friendly (and engaging!) faces on with me. It keeps my energy high and the discouragement at bay. Plus, when you have live engagement, it helps you score extra visibility points in the algorithm.
Did I mention to practice?
Really, as with anything, practice makes perfect!
