Social media and content strategy is constantly evolving – especially this year!
It’s that time again for the Quarterly Recap – where you learn exactly what worked in Q3 that you should be implementing right now.
Content Matters
I talk about this quite often, but that’s because it’s super important! Content is not just a blog post. Your content is the way you show up, what you say, what you post on social media, the video you release, the comments you make, the replies you do, everything on your website, and the blog posts. It’s everything you say and write in relation to your business.
So what you are saying about yourself and your business – your content – it matters. What you are posting online matters. What conversations you are joining matters – especially right now as we are in the height of the Rona/School/Mask/Herd Immunity issues and the upcoming election.
Will you be joining those conversations? Whether you do (or don’t) could affect your business. So be thinking about how you are showing up in that space. There isn’t a right or wrong answer, but it’s important that you decide right now how you as a business are showing up so you can keep consistent with your brand guidelines.
And while we are on the topic of content and consistency – you gotta show up! If you are not posting on social media every day, that needs to be your first goal. Mark time in your calendar right now to post every single day to your social media pages.
There are so many more businesses and people online right now that if you aren’t posting consistently and showing up more frequently, then you will be drowned out by all the other players. The platforms know who is showing up. They have fancy algorithms that give preference to people that are committed.
Most people don’t know what to do, so they are numbing out or running in fear. When that happens they aren’t making the greatest decisions on content or showing up at all. Did you know that fear disables 33% of your brain? So it is literally harder to make choices. Those people that are stuck in fear are looking for someone to guide them. Be that person!
I had a client that had 2 people sign up for her $10k/year coaching program last month. I have a client that increased her engagement 1,700% in August and another that had her video views increase 456%. They all had such success because they are showing up every single day and their audience is responding to their message.
So times may be tough and crazy, but it’s possible to grow and be successful despite the chaos.
Planning Matters
Now that you know why it’s so important to be showing up, do you have a plan for that? One of the most common questions I get is “what should I be talking about in my content?”
To answer that question, you need to have a plan. We talked about this in the Content Simplified Membership this month – about how to make a plan so you always know what to talk about. We created themes and broke it down into weekly topics. It was pretty awesome. If you want info about that – let me know.
When you are just winging it on social media, you will get less engagement and less return on investment over time. When you are hurrying to publish something, you may fail to notice that you already talked about that a few weeks ago. And if you are randomly picking topics, then your topic may not resonate with your audience. And you won’t connect with them long term.
Isn’t that the whole point of social media – to connect with your ideal client?
Having a plan will save you a ton of time, headache, and frustration. Have you ever sat down in front of your computer one day and not know what to post? Or get frustrated with yourself about what to post. You twiddle your thumbs, scroll through Facebook for a few ideas, read some articles, and then it’s 1 hour later and you still haven’t posted?
Having a strategic plan will save you from all of that.
Strategy – aka having a plan – drives results. Period.
If you don’t have a strategy, you are throwing spaghetti and the wall to see what sticks. And we all know what a huge mess that makes. A Strategy ensures you are sticking to your goals, creating content that drives results, and connects with your audience. It naturally increases engagement and connection.
Without that, you are leaving a lot of time, money, and energy on the table.
So take the time to make a plan!! It will save you so much time and energy in the long run.
Community matters
The last thing that we have learned this quarter in the Content Simplified membership, with personal clients, and my own content is that having a community matter. Having a tribe of people that love you and are raving fans will not only raise your bottom line, but it’s incredibly encouraging.
When you have people that are consistently showing up for you, it makes a difference in not only your content but your enthusiasm and dedication to your content.
At the beginning of most of my videos, I say something like “video is more fun with friends”. That’s because it is!! It’s encouraging to have people show up live with you. It’s exciting when people are commenting on your posts and cheering you on.
So what are you doing to create that community? Is that part of your content plan?
One of the things I love most about the Content Simplified membership and Content With Kristy Facebook Group is that community that has been created there. People are posting for feedback on things they are creating. They are working together to build a tribe that they love. It’s amazing and exactly what I’m looking for too.
Now, more than ever, people are seeking connection and community through content – social media, blogs, and everywhere else. So what are you doing to create a community with your social media?
TL;DR
- Content Matters – how you are showing up online and what conversation you are joining matter more than ever right now!
- Planning Matters – having a plan and a strategy is what will keep you consistent and on target for Q4. Take time to make a plan!
- Community Matters – people are seeking connection and community through social media. How are you creating that for your tribe?
